OS X is a FreeBSD clone that powers large computers created by Apple. The small ones (think of iPhone and iPad) are powered by iOS.

Java for OS X is provided by Oracle. Java for iOS is also available (thanks to RoboVM). The best way to get started with multiplatform UI in Java is to use DukeScript.
