A philosophical trend in the Renaissance hoping that pure reason can explain or think up the real world. Quite contrary to empiricism at that time. These days both this trends end up in cluelessness anyway, although there seems to be continuous fight between RationalismVsEmpriricism in almost every engineer I know.
