A philosophical trend in the Renaissance believing that world is mostly unexplainable as a whole and hoping a bits of it can be explained by experience - e.g. trying to break through the wall with plain head. Quite contrary to rationalism at that time. These days both these trends emerge into (selective) cluelessness anyway, but signs of their mutual fight continue to appear from time to time.
