I would suggest you to use self profiler and report a bug. At the end it may turn to be the same case as with Git and Hg, but it also may be something specific to CVS.

I use CVS, but the performance is quite as bad. I switch branches all the time. NetBeans 7.2 freezes, eats CPU and memory, so it's unusable. I'm stuck to NetBeans 7.1.2 so far. A pity.
